Dearlove and Fryer English violin, 1822
This seriously cute little violin has been through the wars but is generally in excellent condition for its age and is more than capable of working through the next 150 years. It was set-up in our workshop to our 'Masters' specifiction using Larsen strings.
Just short of its 200th birthday, this old English violin has a lovely genuine aged patina. The slightly smaller form and Stainer inspired arching, which was the English fashion of the time, produces a typically sweet sound. Brimming with character, this violin would be ideal for the amateur chamber musician.
Mark Dearlove ran a successful workshop in Boar Lane, Leeds employing several makers, including John Charles Fryer with whom he went into partnership. Dearlove’s son, Mark William, took over the workshop sometime around 1838, after which time Fryer is no longer included in business advertising etc. so we can assume the partnership did not survive the transition.
